Phase I: Why?

Discover & Define

Research & Grants

The aim of the First Phase of our program was to discover what should be taught in schools around the world, as opposed to what actually is being taught. For this purpose – we conducted phenomenographic research in 19 primary schools in 11 countries all over the world.

Between December 2021 and May 2022, our researcherssent to far-flung  corners of the world – observed classes in selected schools in the USA, Brazil, Poland, Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, India, the Philippines and South Korea. They aimed to discover and explore the universal humanistic foundations of education. The research confirmed our belief in the necessity to change the way subjects are taught towards one grounded in the interdisciplinary, holistic method.

At the same time, Holistic Think Tank allocated 300 000$ for a grant program in which research teams from the University of Sheffield (UK), Fab Foundation (US) and Human Restoration Project (US) worked on developing their own understanding and operationalization of the Interdisciplinary Subject to be taught in schools. It will serve as an inspiration to create an original Holistic Think Tank IDS curriculum in the next phase of the Program.

The culmination of Phase I will be the international HTT Summit in Seattle (January 2023), during which the results of the HTT research and grants will be presented. They will form the basis for the second phase of our Program in which the HTT team – in cooperation with experts from around the world – will begin to establish the curriculum and tools necessary for the implementation and teaching of the IDS in schools.

Phase II: How?

Workshop & Tooling

Designing Curriculum

Phase II will rest on two crucial pillars. First, a debate on the concept of the Interdisciplinary Subject (IDS) developed by Holistic Think Tank.  Second, the equally important creation of a community of teachers and institutions sharing the same humanistic vision of education. We believe that a close, committed cooperation with the communities of experienced teacher-practitioners and methodologists will enable us to develop a tapestry of fundamental, rooted in science principles and tools facilitating the teaching of IDS in schools.

During the Second Phase of the program, in cooperation with our partners from scientific institutions and foundations from around the world, we will prepare a set of tools useful in the process of implementing Interdisciplinary Subject (IDS) in primary schools. Apart from lesson plans and tools for measuring student progress, it will also include a comprehensive IDS Handbook to provide teaching support to all the teachers ready to bring to life our vision of a better school and education for all the world’s children.

If the cause of globally changing teaching into more relevant, wholesome, interdisciplinary education firmly rooted in humanistic values is close to your heart too, do not hesitate –  join us today! For more about cooperation opportunities, see: For teachers.

Phase III: When?

Implement & Change

Change Implementation

The Third Phase of the program will be a pilot implementation of Interdisciplinary Subject, based on the curriculum developed by Holistic Think Tank.

Building on a community of teachers and institutions committed to changing  education globally  – we will implement the new tools and methods of conducting lessons. As a result of the application of the methodology of IDS,  students will be able to acquire hard, specialized domain knowledge in the course of developing soft skills.

We can only do it together!
